Hello, spooky stars! ✨ Get comfy because I’m about to share with you one of the most creepy AF legends I’ve come across.. the tale of the Boo Hag. Trust me, babe, this one is going to send chills down your spine. Are you ready? Let’s go!
First forget about everything else.. focus on this vision: it’s a dark, foggy night, the moon is hiding behind thick clouds, and you’re alone, but …… not really. There’s something in the room with you. Something lurking in the shadows. This, my loves, is the energy the Boo Hag brings. 👻
The Boo Hag is a super creepy figure from Gullah folklore, originating from the coastal regions of South Carolina and Georgia, specifically among the Gullah people.. descendants of enslaved Africans who maintained much of their African cultural traditions. And babe, when they say folklore, they mean seriously spine chilling. 😱
A Boo Hag is essentially a shape shifting creature who feeds on people’s breath while they sleep. Yup, you heard that right. She’ll sneak into your home, sit on your chest, and literally suck the life out of you, babe. The worst part? She does all of this without a single trace of evidence that she was ever there. LIKE WHAT???? Literally ZERO footprints, no doors busted open… just the creeping sense of dread that lingers when you wake up feeling… off. And that’s happened to me and so many people I know more often than we can remember!!!
Okay, so now that we know what she does, let’s talk about her nasty
vibes. Imagine a wrinkled, sickly old woman, thin as a rail, with saggy skin and no hair. But get this…… her MOST terrifying feature isn’t her appearance, but the fact that she doesn’t have skin at all! Yep, the Boo Hag is said to be completely skinless!!! her body is just raw, exposed muscle and tissue. Tell me this isn’t creepy af?!!!
Her eyes are said to glow, adding another layer of creepy, and her presence is often felt before she’s even seen! Your soul knows something is off.. either your spirit guides or your own soul can feel her nasty presence and they’re warning you by making you feel this sense of unease that cannot be explained! Like strong chills creeping up your spine, heavy breathing in the air… all that good stuff. It’s like she’s a living nightmare.
How to Protect Yourself from a Boo Hag:
so let’s say you find yourself at the mercy of this skinless lady creature thing.. (please don’t, OMG). What can you do to protect yourself? Well, in the Gullah culture, they believe you can outsmart her! You just have to keep her busy…. Apparently, if you put shiny objects near your bed stuff like scissors, keys, or anything that could distract her, then she’ll be too busy trying to count and figure out the number of objects to drain your soul. Sounds weird lol , but it works.
Also, the Boo Hag supposedly has to be invited in, so be cautious about who you let into your home, babe. There’s a saying that “what you invite in will invite you to its world.” Kinda gives you chills, right? With that being said, I would also advise you to NEVER put ‘ WELCOME ‘ mats on your front porch, same goes for saying “ you’re welcome “ when someone says thank you! Babe, you never know… better safe than sorry! Just say “ no prob! “ Stay mindful of your surroundings, and don’t get too comfortable, especially if there are strange visitors around.
The Boo Hag doesn’t just steal your breath while you sleep; she becomes you. After a successful breath stealing sesh, the Boo Hag will wear your skin like a horrifying human suit. She’ll then take over your body and walk around pretending to be you…. Literally talking, eating, even breathing just like you. OMG, can you imagine waking up and seeing yourself sitting in your bed, but you know it’s not really you? YIKES!!!!
Once she has your breath, it’s said she can keep coming back for more until there’s nothing left of you. Creepy AF, right?
